New information: Blackboard Collaborate has developed a Blackboard Collaborate Launcher for Windows and Mac systems to help alleviate the problems associated with Java and the impact of Java updates. The Launcher includes a known, stable version of Java that is tested and compatible with the Collaborate service. Users will no longer need system Java installed or maintained on their computers to use Collaborate web conferencing.
Activating the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher
When you click on a meeting link, Blackboard Collaborate checks to see if you have the launcher installed.
The Launcher download can be done in advance or 15 minutes prior to attending a session.
- Open this link to begin the process.
- If you get to the sign-in page, go ahead and type in your name to go on in. Then you can exit until time to attend the web-meeting.
- If you see a prompt to download the launcher, say yes to the download. “Save” the download, watch your computer screen to see when it has downloaded, then “run” the launcher.
- If you don’t already own a headset with a built-in microphone, think about borrowing or buying one which plugs into a USB port to avoid sound issues that occur without headsets.
